VIDEO: ELIOT SPEAKS OUT AGAINST REPUBLICAN-HIRED POLITICAL ‘TRACKER’

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Eliot has received a tremendous response to the letter that he sent to the Chairman of the Republican Governors Association regarding the RGA’s use of a paid tracker to videotape Eliot and other gubernatorial candidates.

While partisan insiders see all of this as “part of the game,” the Maine voters that Eliot and the campaign office have heard from over the last two days agree that this practice has no place in Maine politics.

Below are two interviews in which Eliot discusses the ‘tracking’ and why he believes it is corrosive to our state politics and distracts us from the key challenges facing Maine today.

Cutler Calls Use of Tracker “Highly Objectionable” (Kennebec Journal)

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Susan Cover posts on her blog today that Republicans have been using a hired ‘video tracker’ to follow and tape gubernatorial candidates around Maine.

Below is an excerpt which includes a quote from Eliot:

Independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler has written a letter to the chairman of the Republican Governors Association to complain about a tracker who he says lied to him about her identity.

“While I realize that the RGA — or any other group — has every right to stalk candidates with a video camera, I have to confess that I find both the practice and this manner of doing so highly objectionable,” he said in a statement. “Its only purpose — starting in March no less — is to hopefully capture a few seconds of some ‘gotcha’ moment that can be used in a 30-second negative ad this fall.”
